The residence questions explore settlement history, residence, family connections and local attachment. Interpret these accounts alongside actual resource use, access arrangements and the significance people assign to particular places.

Design use

Record duration of residence and family connections alongside seasonal use, claims and practical dependence on places. Distinguish the respondent’s personal account from a statement about the settlement’s history, and document the basis of historical accounts.

Instrument review

The parallel language lists preserve their own wording. Review the interpretation of indigenous identity and local attachment with the study population before adapting these questions.
